Poetry: “do these in remembrance of me” by Scott Chalupa

Kiss me in the twilight when dreams

Die – when the starlight miracle drains

From the sky. I will stab your echoed footsteps

With my Ticonderoga. Drawing long shadows behind

Your last words, I will dissolve into your forgetful drifts.

She will present herself riding the sea foam

On a lotus. Marry her hands crumbling with food, sing to

Your token bride though you do not know her or love her. Share

Your honeymoon bed with knives in your eyes.

Sluice your bitter pennies through narrow resentments.

Kill the spiders in their cribs before

Misery wakes. In your hidden places, kiss my ghost

Because you knew me when I loved you.
