Happy 2016!

Felicitations, dear reader!

There’s always something happening at Glass Mountain Magazine and, as 2015 draws to a close, we wanted to get you all updated on a few things.

First of all, our Poetry and Prose Contest is still going on. If you’re planning on submitting, you have until January 9th, so make those final edits and get those fiction, nonfiction, and poetry pieces in! If you’ve already submitted some work, thank you! We’ll be contacting and announcing the winners some time in February.

Secondly, we wanted to throw in a reminder that our next issue, Volume 16, will be themed. (Issues of Volume 15 are out now and available to order here.) We are looking for work – poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art, reviews – that pertains in some way to the idea of growth. As we mentioned previously, this theme can be interpreted as loosely or literally as you choose. We’re just excited to see what you come up with!

Finally, another year brings another Boldface Writer’s Conference. Hurrah! Early bird registration will open tomorrow, January 1st. The lowest price on registration ($100, our special price at the launch party) has unfortunately passed, but you can still save money on your entry to this one-of-a-kind writing conference the earlier you get it. The registration rates will change as follows:

January 1 – March 23: $195 for students, $295 for community
March 24 – May 15: $295 for students, $395 for community
May 16 – day of conference: $395 for students, $495 for community

So get those registrations in ASAP! Quick tip, if you have any friends or family who are aspiring writers and you still haven’t gotten them a present, a Boldface registration would be well-received. Get more information on the conference here. We’re looking forward to a great turnout at the 2016 conference.

As always, thank you for your support. Keep checking back here for more events and updates.

Have a happy 2016!

Volume 15 is here!

Greetings, dear reader!

Last Friday was the launch party for Volume 15 of Glass Mountain Magazine and the staff is proud to share the product of a semester of hard work. We’d like to say thank you to Brasil Cafe, who generously allowed us to host our party at their venue. The editors also would like to send another big thank you to our invaluable staff who read through all our submissions to choose the best for this issue, proofread it, and helped us run all of the events we held this semester. We look forward to working with you again for the Spring issue.

Speaking of which, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that Volume 16 will be a themed issue. We are looking for works – in nonfiction, fiction, poetry, art, and reviews – that appeal to the idea of growth. This theme can be interpreted as literally or figuratively as you’d like. We’ve already been receiving submissions and look forward to seeing more. The deadline for submissions for this next issue is March 4th and you can submit here.

Also happening now is our Prose and Poetry contest! We are looking for submissions of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. There is a submission fee of $5 for each entry, with a prize of $100 in each category. This means that there is a potential prize of $300! Submit your entry through our Submittable page here. The deadline for all entries is January 9th.

The Prose and Poetry Contest and Volume 16 are not the only things to keep in mind for the spring semester! Our Boldface Writer’s Conference will be taking place May 23rd – 27th, 2016. If you’ve attended in the past, be sure to make plans to return, and spread the word about this great experience! If you’ve never been, we’d strongly suggest that you consider becoming a part of this week-long, one-of-a-kind opportunity for emerging writers. Our lowest price ever on registration was offered at our launch party on Friday, but if you missed that, early bird registration for the conference will open on January 1st. Remember that the earlier you register, the more money you’ll save! We hope to see you at the conference next year.

Finally, we’d like to mention that we are once again accepting applications to join the staff of Glass Mountain. As mentioned earlier, we enjoyed working with all of our staff this semester, but it can only be expected that, as they are busy undergraduates, not everyone will be available to continue to work in the spring. So, we will have some spots to fill! If you’d like to join us, please fill out the application found here and send it, with your resume, to glassmountaineditors@gmail.com. We’ll contact applicants in the new year to schedule interviews.

Thanks as always for your support. If you’d like to get your hands on our beautiful new issue, you can order it here (along with all of our past issues) or come to one of our events this coming semester (which will be announced soon) to get it at a discount.

Happy holidays from Glass Mountain. We look forward to seeing you again in the new year!
