Our 2017 Poetry and Prose Contest has closed and our judges are now reading! Missed the deadline? Don’t despair, start writing now for next year’s competition. Meanwhile, why not consider attending our Boldface Conference for Emerging Writers in May 2017 (details here)?
Poetry and prose competetion submissions are being considered from three categories: fiction, nonfiction and poetry. There are fantastic prizes:
- Winners in each category receive:
- $100 prize money.
- Free registration to the 2017 Boldface Conference.
- Publication in Issue #18 of Glass Mountain (our 10th anniversary issue!)
- An invitation to read at our April launch for Issue #18.
- two complimentary copies of Issue #18.
The contest is open to all emerging writers (i.e. writers who have not attended a Creative Writing MFA or PhD program).
We encourage any emerging authors to apply, and can’t wait to read your submissions!
With all submissions please include a short biography (about 50-100 words) in your cover letter. This should be written in third-person, and tell us about you and any previous publications, if any, of your other creative work. Should you be selected, we will include this on our contributors’ page.
Each submission for the Poetry & Prose contest must be one poem, one story, or one essay. There is no limit on the number of separate submissions. Prose should be a maximum of 15 pages (12-point font, double-spaced, standard margins) and a poem can be up to 5 single-spaced pages. Standard manuscript format applies to both. We are taking submissions internationally.
Please remember, you may not enter this contest if you are a current or former graduate student in creative writing as this is a contest for emerging writers.
