So much has happened in the few weeks since our last post, dear reader. A few of us on the magazine had the opportunity to join in the writing-nerd gathering of AWP in Los Angeles. There, we got to attend panels on writing craft and publishing as well as various readings by amazing authors. In between panels, we worked our table at the bookfair while browsing the other hundreds of booths. It wasn’t all playtime though. We finished the layout of Volume 16 while away, and it’s now in the hands of the printers, to be completed by next week. We’ll be celebrating its release next Wednesday, April 27th, at 5:30pm in the UH Honors Commons (on the second floor of the MD Anderson Library)We had to push back the launch date from the 13th due to some delays in production, but everything has come together and we hope that you’ll be able to join us that evening. The event is not only our launch party for our newest issue, but will be the last reading in the library’s Poetry and Prose series. We have contributors to the issue coming to read some of their work, along with some writers in the UH community. Refreshments will be served and copies of our eagerly-anticipated new issue will be available for purchase.

In addition to the very exciting event of the release of our new issue, our next big event is our Boldface Conference. In case you aren’t already aware, the Boldface Conference is a writing conference targeted towards emerging writers. Over the course of a week, writers from all over the country come to workshop with talented and knowledgeable workshop leaders, attend lectures and craft talks by our visiting authors, and go on special field trips around the city of Houston. It is a very unique experience that you cannot find elsewhere, especially at the low rate at which we offer it. We’ve extended our early bird registration to April 30th, so you can still get the $195 student/$295 community rates. This fee includes breakfast and lunch every day of the conference. Accommodations and private consultations are also available for separate fees. Click here for more information and to register.

We are very excited to have these events to offer our loyal followers. We hope to see you at the reading next week, the Boldface Conference, or both!
